Best kept secret

Visitors will be lured to the wilderness and some pretty impressive views

Tucked away in the rugged terrain in the heart of the Elk Valley, and amongst the densest wildlife populations in North America, is the paradise town of Sparwood.

The second largest centre on the Elk River, Sparwood has an amazing history, although it is one of the youngest towns in British Columbia.

Sparwood is as well known for its abundance of wildlife. Located just off of hwy 3 across from Terex Titan, the world's largest dump truck - you will find the Sparwood Golf Club. Brought to Sparwood in 1978 to work the mines, the 260 ton dump truck was retired in 1990 because it was no longer cost efficient.

The Sparwood Golf Club opened in 1984, this nine-hole course has two sets of tees for a bit of a change from front nine to back nine. There is a driving range, friendly staff and a fully stocked pro shop, and a licensed restaurant.

What better way to end your day, by taking in some of the incredible views on the wrap-around deck at MacIsaac's "On the Green", famous for their hearty steak sandwich.

Club's General Manager, Rod Uhll, hopes to have the newly constructed and elevated first tee box ready by July.

"It should be another great season, the course is looking to be in the best shape ever," said Uhll.
