Behind the scenes
On crisp, cool September morning, GolfWest publisher Keith Powell and sales representative Mike Dale were treated to an exclusive on-the-course tour of Cranbrook’s newest golf destination: Shadow Mountain Golf Community.
A fun challenge
Tee’er up and let it rip—that’s the type of golfing Kokanee Springs is designed for and that was the game we brought to the venerable course in early August 2008. The course plays long and yet graceful with a few tricky par 3’s sprinkled throughout to test your irons and give your Big Berthas a breather.
72 holes in five days
Travelling with a fearsome foursome of writers from San Diego, Edmonton, Trail and Rossland hosted by Redstone's Marketing and Sales Manager John Reid, instructional pro Loretta Bulfone, and Kootenay Rockies Marketing and Communications manager Chris Andrews, we toured the West Kootenay playing six of the eight jewels on the Kootenay Golf Passport.
A lucky ace
After 12 years of playing golf, Mark Riegert of Kimberley, B.C., finally shot a hole-in-one on October 17, 2007; it came as a surprise to Mark and his wife Jayne, who were enjoying their last game of the season at Way-Lyn Ranch Golf Course when it happened.
Cranbrook a major player
Given the combination of stunning scenery, a laid-back lifestyle and the idea of getting more value for your dollar, the Kootenay region is attracting buyers for both recreational and full-time purposes.
Welcoming a new head pro
Paul Whittingham is the new head golf professional at Cranbrook Golf Club—and he’s loving it.
Get your driver out
The Fernie Golf Club has many exciting things to look forward to this season—including a new Head CPGA Pro and General Manager.

Its natural rolling topography makes the Columbia Valley a golfer's paradise, with course layouts that wind along mountain slopes and past babbling creeks.
Golfing in the West Kootenay
One of the best things about golfing in the West Kootenay is that there is always a stellar course just half an hour away from your last round of golf. What makes these courses stand out is the way in which they have been designed to take advantage of the natural beauty and lay of the land.
