Autumn is awesome on the course
Find out why fall is a great time to golf
Falling leaves and frost delays are commonplace in the fall and both are a sure sign that the end of the season is near. Be sure to keep things in perspective and embrace the arrival of October, because things are not all bad and if you look hard enough you will find that there is still plenty to be excited about.
In an effort to lift the morale of golfers everywhere, I decided to brainstorm a list. For your reading pleasure, please find my list of the top 10 reasons to put a smile on your face and enjoy the arrival of October.
1) Green fee specials are all around us and you will find that golf is more affordable in the fall than any other time of the year.
2) Not only can you afford to play a few times a week, but it is also not difficult to get great tee times, even on short notice.
3) Golf courses are no longer overcrowded and rounds are once again completed in four hours or less.
4) You do not need to paint yourself with bug repellent three times a day.
5) Pro shop clearance sales make it a great time to overhaul your wardrobe, revamp your golf equipment or restock your incidental items like gloves, balls and tees.
6) Frost delays provide you with more time to spend in the clubhouse drinking coffee and telling stories. Nothing beats time spent reminiscing about the season.
7) You are literally months away from your next competitive round of golf, so you can fully relax, shed all personal expectations and simply play for the fun of it.
8) When you lose a ball you can always blame it on the leaves. Hey, we can all use another excuse can’t we?
9) There is no excessive heat; mild temperatures will allow you to enjoy your day in comfort.
10) With competitive play over for the year, driving range time can be kept to a minimum. You are now able to live guilt free knowing that you are playing more than you practice.
Alright, so I may be stretching things somewhat on a few of them, but the point is, we must maintain a perspective on things. Yes, the season is beginning to draw to a close, but that does not mean you can’t enjoy what we do have left.
Try to find ways to motivate yourself and learn to see the positive aspects of the season. I guarantee you that when you are shoveling your walk in the middle of November you will not regret having made the most of your time in October—but beware, the opposite also holds true.
